1. Introduction

Welcome to Bar Blitz ("we", "us", "our"), a chess tournament platform operated from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. By creating an account or using our services at barblitz.co (the "Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use our Platform.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you are under 16, you may only use the Platform with the consent of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf.

3. Account Registration

To access certain features you must register for an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete information during registration.
  • Keep your login credentials secure and confidential.
  • Notify us promptly of any unauthorised use of your account.
  • Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or are inactive for an extended period.

4. Services

Bar Blitz provides a platform for organising and participating in chess tournaments and events. Our services include:

  • Tournament registration and management.
  • A rating system to track player performance.
  • A token-based payment system for tournament entry fees.
  • Community features such as player profiles and rankings.

5. Tokens & Payments

Tokens are a digital currency used on the Platform to pay for tournament entry fees and other services.

  • Tokens are purchased with real money via our payment processor (Stripe).
  • Tokens are non-refundable except where required by applicable law or at our sole discretion.
  • We reserve the right to modify token pricing at any time with reasonable notice.
  • Unused tokens remain in your account indefinitely as long as your account is active.

6. Tournament Participation

  • By registering for a tournament you agree to abide by the tournament rules set by the organiser.
  • Fair play is mandatory. Any form of cheating (including but not limited to engine assistance) will result in disqualification and potential account suspension.
  • Tournament organisers reserve the right to refuse or remove participants at their discretion.
  • Refunds for tournament entry fees are handled by the tournament organiser according to their cancellation policy.

7. User Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose.
  • Harass, threaten, or abuse other users.
  • Create multiple accounts to circumvent bans or manipulate ratings.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Platform or its systems.
  • Upload or transmit malicious code or content.

8. Intellectual Property

All content, branding, and software on the Platform are the property of Bar Blitz or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without prior written consent.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Dutch and EU law:

  • The Platform is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Platform.
  • Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you have paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
  • We are not responsible for the actions of tournament organisers, venues, or other users.

10. Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time through your profile settings. Upon deletion:

  • Your personal data will be anonymised in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
  • Your game history and ratings will be retained in anonymised form for the integrity of tournament records.
  • Any remaining token balance will be forfeited unless a refund is requested before deletion.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms shall be submitted to the competent courts in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, without prejudice to your rights under mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence within the EU.
